born October 31, 1923 passed on to be with the Lord May 17, 2016 at the age of 92. He was the son of John Roetman and Minnie Joan Maghielse. He grew up in Grand Rapids, MI and attended Union High School. During WWII John served in the US Army in a Military Police unit from 1943 to 1946 when he was honorably discharged. He graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Guidance & Counseling. He met and married the love of his life Phyllis Irene Manchester in 1955. John and Phyllis lived in Okemos, MI until recently when they relocated to Friendswood, Texas. They were happily married 58 years until she passed in 2014. John worked in MSU Administration for over 30 years, advancing to the position of Manager University Apartments. John was active in politics and was elected to the offices of Township Trustee and Supervisor, Meridian Township. Following his retirement John joined the MSU Retirees Association and served as VP and President. John was an avid MSU Spartans fan and world traveler. He touched the lives of many people and was well-respected by his community.
He is survived by his two daughters and their families: Nancy and Rudolph Munoz of League City, Texas, grandchildren Amy and Rudy Munoz; and Linda Roetman and James Perdue of Dandridge Tennessee.
Services have been held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center, 1500 E. Medical Center Dr, Ann Arbor, MI 48109.
